Colt 1851 REB Confederate .44, a six-shot percussion black powder revolver in .44 caliber designed by Samuel Colt, loaded from the front with an open frame.
In 1851, the revolver was adopted by the US Navy, and despite the name Colt Navy, it was sold in larger quantities to the army than to the navy. The reputation of the Colt Navy revolver soon reached England, where Samuel Colt built the only factory outside the United States in 1852. Revolvers produced in this factory between 1853 and 1856 were named Navy London.
Construction - brass frame (open skeleton). The barrel and cylinder are blued to a black finish. Walnut grip scales. Round barrel with a length of 7.375", twist rate 1-30".
Trigger - trigger guard and grip fittings made of polished brass. The trigger cocking mechanism allows for two positions: half-cocked for placing percussion caps on the nipples, and fully cocked for firing.
Ramrod - lever-type (plunger), hinged under the revolver barrel, designed to press lead bullets into the chambers of the cylinder.

Black powder is produced in 4 granulation grades. The granulation grade is indicated by the letter F:
1F or FG - powder with the largest grains, used for large caliber weapons or cannon replicas.
2F or FFG - for use in pistols of .45 caliber or larger.
3F or FFFG - the most popular powder variety, used for revolvers and shotguns in calibers up to .45.
4F or FFFFG - the finest granulation, used in pistols of .31 caliber or smaller.
